Mount Vernon Hotel, Mount Vernon, Glasgow. Formerly the Golden Gates Hotel, was given a new name and a facelift. It's now called the Mount Vernon Hotel. It has as new function room which can accomodate about 200 people. Entertainers who have appeared in it so far include the Caribbeans and comedian Les McLean. a real effort has been made to improve the image of the hotel. There have been sweeping changes. It now has an extensive a la carte menu as well as set meals, and a new wing has been built with 15 bedrooms. Dinner dances are now a weekly feature on Friday and Saturday evenings. Charge is £1 plus 10 per cent cover charge.

The opportunity of being heard by the leading people in the entertainments business.
That is the top award in a competition which was run at the Strand, one of Glasgow's most progressive cabaret rooms, during the week starting November 30, 1970.
It is not so much a talent contest as a shawcase to spot entertainers of the future, and, if they measure up, there could be work for several of the entrants. The attractive feature about it is that it will last for only one week, and will not, as in so many similar shows, drag out for months. There will be four heats from Monday till Thursday, the semi-final on Friday, and the final on Saturday.
The final will be judged by a panel from a wide field in the Scottish entertainment business, including Scottish Television, the B.B.C., and a well-known recording company. The show will be run as a production with comedian Ray Jeffrys introducing the acts and doing link man.
There will be four finalists, with the winner getting a full week's paid work at the Strand and £25. The other prizes are £15 and two of £5.

The VERA LYNN SHOW.
There was a Vera Lynn cabaret show at the Dalearn House in Barrhead in November 1970. It was a very popular show an was very advisable to book seat.
Another popular lounge at the time was the Lincoln, Knightswood. The lounge was certainly the place to be. They featured a different group on Monday through till Thursday. The place was so popular that if they got any more people in they would have to reinforce the outside walls.
